What makes us passionate about non‑medical in‑home care
A letter from our founder, Carly Pickern, on the caregiver who kept her uncle in the home he loved, and the standard of care that grew out of it.
My understanding of home care began long before I ever thought of starting an agency. As a child, I spent many days with my uncle, a successful businessman, who was a quadriplegic and relied on a wheelchair and needed daily care. His caregiver became part of our family.
I watched her care for the details that made his life at home possible—preparing meals, helping with personal care, protecting his health, and most importantly, helping him maintain his dignity and independence. Her care allowed my uncle to remain in the home he loved, while giving our family the comfort of knowing he was in capable, caring hands.
That experience stayed with me. I learned that exceptional home care doesn't just support one person, it can change the quality of life for an entire family.
We created Home Care by Athena with that standard in mind. In Greek mythology, Athena represents wisdom, strength, protection and guardianship, qualities that reflect the kind of care we believe every family deserves. We thoughtfully select and match caregivers who understand the responsibility of being welcomed into someone's home and trusted with someone they love.
