Home Care by Athena was created in Roseville, CA by Carly Pickern to bring a higher standard of in-home care to the families of South Placer County. Our team brings over 20 years of combined in-home care experience, and every caregiver is a licensed Home Care Aide with at least two years in the field.
Why we started Athena
My understanding of home care began long before I ever thought of starting an agency. As a child, I spent many days with my uncle, a successful businessman, who was a quadriplegic and relied on a wheelchair and needed daily care. His caregiver became part of our family.
That experience stayed with me. I learned that exceptional home care doesn't just support one person, it can change the quality of life for an entire family.
We created Home Care by Athena with that standard in mind. In Greek mythology, Athena represents wisdom, strength, protection and guardianship, qualities that reflect the kind of care we believe every family deserves. We thoughtfully select and match caregivers who understand the responsibility of being welcomed into someone's home and trusted with someone they love.

The people responsible for your parent's care
Carly Pickern
Carly leads day-to-day care operations: assessments, care plans, caregiver matching and the check-ins that keep a plan working. She holds the agency's California Home Care Organization license and is the person families reach when something needs to change.
Troy Greenway
Troy looks after client relations for Athena so Carly and the care team can stay focused on care. He handles hiring systems, scheduling technology and the partnerships with local discharge planners and senior communities.
Ginelle Franklin Rowe
Ginelle coordinates schedules, introduces caregivers to families and follows up after the first visits. If a shift needs covering or a routine needs adjusting, she is the one who makes it happen.
Our Home Care Aides appear in photos across this site. We do not publish their names online; you will meet yours in person before care begins.
Four commitments
Every plan starts with an in-person assessment by Carly at the home, in Roseville, Rocklin, Granite Bay or wherever in South Placer County your family lives. We match a caregiver to the person, not just the schedule, and introduce them before the first shift. Caregivers are our employees, the owner checks in after care begins, and the plan is reviewed whenever needs change.
Calm authority
Families call us in stressful moments. Our job is to bring order: a clear plan, a specific schedule, a named caregiver.

We tell you what we see, including when a situation needs more than home care can safely provide.
